About the Show
Jury
Our jury is comprised of individuals who have been selected based upon their “artistic eye” which permits them to evaluate the jury images and artist statements fairly regardless of the medium.
Jury Notification for Early Bird and Regular Deadlines - April 15, 2019
Jury Notification for the Late Deadline - June 1, 2019
Awards
Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in both two and three dimensional categories will be awarded based upon the decisions of the professional judges.
Past Entrants and Award Winners
We do NOT automatically accept artists who have participated in the past nor to those who have received awards. While it is an honor to have participated in the past or to have been awarded a prize, this policy prevents our show from becoming stale with a repeat of only the same artists every year and gives artists who are new to the event an equal opportunity to be included in the judging.
Costs and Payments
Art & Soul on the Fox is one of the most affordable shows in the region due to the fact that the City of Elgin underwrites many of the costs of the event! Secondly, Art for All, the group in charge of all artist and performance entertainment, is a nonprofit group of artists so we "get" it! The purpose of an art show is for you to SELL your work, not to struggle to make enough money to cover an exorbitant booth fee.
Non-refundable Jury Fee for all booth artists: $15.00
There will be NO refunds of booth fees will be issued for artists who withdraw after May 1, 2019 regardless of the reason! Artists who have paid their booth fees and withdraw on or before May 1, 2019 will receive a 50% refund of their booth fee. All requests for a refund must be sent to [email protected] or via a contact form at the bottom of the page of this website.
Requirements
Jewelry
Jewelry must be unique in the manner in which it was created. Work that has been created exclusively by combining readily available purchased elements does NOT meet the criteria for our show. It is especially important in the jewelry category that the artist statement clearly defines the manner in which the jewelry was created.
Photography, drawing, painting - Originals or Copies?
Photographers need not print their own photographs and we do not require limited edition and numbered prints. High quality prints from an artist’s original paintings or drawings are also acceptable.
Your work
Any artist found to be exhibiting work that is vastly different from their jury images will be required to dismantle their booth and will not be given a refund for their booth fee! We have been fortunate to have not encountered this problem in the past, but want to ensure each applicant that this policy will be enforced along with not allowing any "buy/sell" goods.
Artist Display Requirements
The booth spaces at Art & Soul on the Fox are a very generous 14’ wide x approximately 20’ deep due to our new location on the Riverside Promenade. This provides ample space for neatly organized storage and/or possible artwork displays on both the sides and behind each space. Artists are responsible for providing, setting up, and tearing down their own display, including their tent.
Each artist must display their work in an attractive and professional-looking manner. Artists, whose work is of a nature that is better displayed without a tent MAY exhibit "in the open". This is best suited for works such as works such as large pieces of furniture or sculptures. "Tent walls" are not required, but can certainly be helpful in the event of less than optimal weather conditions!
A well-written and concise Artist Statement and images that clearly and attractively show your work completed within the past two years will be to your benefit! If you do not have good quality images, please enlist the help of someone who can assist you. The images you submit for the jury will also be included in an online gallery for each accepted artist and should be of a quality that will encourage visitors to the site to seek out your booth!
Jury Images & Preferred preparation of them
To complete the application process, you must send four (4) images of your artwork as an email attachment to [email protected]. Images should be of work created within the past two (2) years and NOT include identifying watermarks.
PLEASE IDENTIFY THE FOLDER CONTAINING YOUR IMAGES (and your individual submitted images) WITH YOUR FIRST INITIAL AND LAST NAME. Please do NOT name your folder with "Art and Soul" or a generic show identification name.
PAYMENT
Payment for both application and booth fees can be made online using a major credit or debit card via PayPal. A PayPal account is not necessary and instructions are included on the Payment Page. If you prefer to pay by check or money order, please make it payable to "Art for All" and mail it to Art & Soul on the Fox, P.O. Box 6580, Elgin, IL 60121-6580. Deadlines apply to the date the check was received, not when it was written or postmarked!
SHARED BOOTHS
A booth may be shared by two artists who will each be exhibiting their own body of work. Each artist in a shared booth MUST have been accepted into the show based upon their own application and submitted jury images. Simply having shared a booth in the past does not guarantee the same arrangement for 2018. The request for a shared booth will not be given to the jurors and will not be taken into consideration with respect to possible acceptance into the show. Each accepted artist in a shared booth will receive their own booth placard and will be judged separately during the show.
The application no longer includes a section regarding shared booths. If you are interested in sharing a booth with another artist, one of you must send an email to [email protected] notifying the committee of this desire and including the name and email of your fellow artist.
The booth sharing procedure and policies apply only to artists who each create their own body of work whether in the same or different mediums and does not apply to two or more individuals who share the responsibility of creating, exhibiting, and selling a combined body of work.

Musical Entertainment & Children’s Activities

About the Show
- Art & Soul on the Fox is an annual juried and professionally judged outdoor art fair held the first weekend of August on the beautiful Riverside Promenade street in downtown Elgin, IL.
- Additional spaces are available inside Elgin Artspace Lofts gallery for juried/judged artists who wish to be included in the event but who either cannot exhibit outdoors or who don't have an exhibit tent.
- Our purpose is to showcase and provide a venue for promoting sales of works by regional fine artists and artisans.
- Art & Soul on the Fox is neither a “craft” fair nor is it an event that permits “buy/sell” products.
- All work displayed and for sale must have been designed and executed utilizing the creativity of the exhibiting artist.
- To maintain a balanced show, an artist’s acceptance will be dependent upon not only the quality of the works but also the total number of available spaces in each medium. At some shows, this applies only to Jewelry and/or Photography artists. At Art & Soul on the Fox, it applies to all mediums.
- The show will be held rain or shine and no refunds will be given due to an unlikely weather-related cancellation.
- Drop off and load up are done directly at your site with ample free parking available in close proximity.
- Overnight security is provided on both Friday and Saturday nights, but neither Art for All nor the City of Elgin shall be held responsible for any damage or loss to either art or personal items for the duration of the event which includes both set up and tear down.
- Artists will be permitted to drive into the event area on Saturday AFTER the artist award ceremony for the purpose of loading up artwork that will not be kept inside their booth overnight.
